Born July 22 1983, Maurice “Reec” Swiney is an American actor, entrepreneur, radio personality, entertainment/media influencer, author and philanthropist. Reec was born in Montclair, NJ but now resides in Atlanta GA. He spent many years traveling from state to state until he moved in with his father in 1996. From there he found stability, structure and the values of a male role model. Here Reec inherited his spirit of tenacity and under the tutelage of his father, Reec began to challenging his self to persevere. Finding solace and discipline inside the basketball court, Reec landed a full scholarship to attend Atlanta’s Southern Polytechnic State University.

While playing basketball at SPSU, Reec honed in on a undiscovered gift of rhyme. What started as just entertaining his teammates, Reec developed the confidence to begin entering talent shows in Atlanta, which led him to pursue his career as a rap artist. Reec subsequently released two singles “Get to the Money” and “Lets Go” which garnered national success, spending more than 40 weeks on Billboard’s coveted Hot 100 Chart; with a total of 92 appearances overall.

Reec’s experience as an artist led him to transition into radio. Starting off working as a DJ for an AM station, he got his big break when he began working for Radio One’s Hot 107.9 in 2008. There he took over their midday airway’s and worked with their community outreach program through his own non profit Positive American Youth, which is co-founded with his Dad. Positive American Youth (PAYUSA) is an outreach organization that work to fight youth hunger and promote youth literacy through reading programs. His organization donates thousands of pounds of food and household supplies every year to families in need. Through his philanthropic work with PAYUSA, Reec earned a NAACP Unsung Hero & Community Service Award, presented to him by former Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed. Reec has also received a proclamation from Georgia Representative Erica Thomas, and an acknowledgement from Congressman David Scott recognizing his community service and outreach. [1]

Reec is also a well known author who created Ice The Bully children’s books. He created Ice The Bully to bring awareness to bullying through his non profits Anti Bullying Campaign. Reec and his fictional character Ice utilize fabricated stories loosely based on real life scenarios, to promote positive imagery as it relates to fitness, nutrition & financial literacy. [2]

Reec is currently a part of Rodney Perry’s IMPROV comedy show “Class Clowning”, and has appeared on four seasons of TVONE’s reality show Ricky Smiley For Real, and additionally made his acting debut on the FOX hit series STAR. Some of Reec’s other accolades include Hot Block Magazine’s Hip Hop Community Service Award, Induction into the Atlanta Metro College Athletics Hall of Fame, and the United Athletes Foundation (UAF), a membership that he shares alongside some of the greatest iconic sports figures such as Ray Lewis and Jim Brown.

During the pandemic Reec started his own radio show “The Reec Radio Show”, which is aired on a multiple FM and digital stations in the U.S. On his show he has interviewed a variety of celebrity guest such as Comedian’s Luenell and Michael Colyar, Artist Hurricane Chris, Pro Ball Player Lamar Odom and many more! Reec also took an interest in raising chickens during the pandemic. What started as a hobby to help alleviate the stress of the pandemic and to help with his mental health, quickly turned into the brand “Black Yard Chickenz”, where he and his lovely hens have become viral sensations on Tik Tok and Instagram. Through Black Yard Chickenz, Reec is an advocate for producing healthy eggs all while promoting a healthy lifestyle. [4]
