He graduated from Hopkins High School in Minnetonka, Minnesota in 2013, and later attended Drake University where he was a Drake Relays champion, a four-time Missouri Valley Conference champion and set school records in the indoor 5,000m, indoor 3,000m, and outdoor 5,000m.
After graduating from Drake University in 2017, Fischer moved to Boulder, Colorado where he became a founding member of professional running team, Tinman Elite, and later turned pro with adidas. Fischer holds personal bests of 2:10:54 in the marathon, 1:01:37 in the half marathon, 46:40 for 10 miles, and 28:12 for 10,000m.
Career[edit]
High School[edit]
Fischer attended Hopkins High School, where he ran cross country[1] and track from 2008 to 2013 under coaches Mike Harris and Nick Lovas. He ran personal bests of 4:29 for 1,600m, 9:23 for 3,200m, and 16:09 for 5,000m. In his senior year, Fischer finished 52nd at the 2012 MSHSL Cross Country Championships and 11th in the 3,200m at the MSHSL Track & Field Championships.
College[edit]
Fischer ran under Coach Dan Hostager while competing at Drake University[2] from 2013 to 2017. In his time at Drake, Fischer ran personal bests[3] of 8:04 in the 3,000m, 13:47 in the 5,000m, and 28:48 in the 10,000m. He placed 50th at the 2016 NCAA Cross Country Championships, and earned NCAA All-America Second Team honors twice in Outdoor Track & Field, placing 17th in the 10,000m at the 2016 NCAA Championships and 9th at the 2017 NCAA Championships. Fischer won the Drake Relays 5,000m in 2017, breaking a 39-year-old Drake University program record[4] in the process. He became the first Drake Bulldog to win the Drake Relays since his teammate, Brogan Austin, in 2012.
Professional[edit]
After graduating from Drake University in 2017, Fischer moved to Boulder, Colorado to train with Drew Hunter and Sam Parsons. The trio eventually formed professional running team, Tinman Elite[5]. While running for Tinman Elite, Fischer has placed[6] in the top 10 at two World Marathon Majors and ran under the IAAF World Championship qualifying standard[7] (2:11:30) at the 2022 Boston Marathon, qualified to represent the United States at the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in 2020, and earned a bronze medal at the 2019 NACAC Championships[8] in the 10,000m. At the 2019 Aramco Houston Half Marathon, Fischer finished as the first American in 62:06[9] and qualified for the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials[10]. He returned to Houston in 2020 and ran a personal best of 61:37[11], which placed him 20th on the U.S. all-time performance list at the time. In 2020, Fischer signed a professional contract[12] with adidas and has represented adidas since.
