Company's factory[1], as well as HQ, is located in small town of Trud, Provdiv district ("kraj").
Since 2012, the company produces own designs of perfumes[2]. Refan also makes rose oil and rose water for skin care[3].
Practice of manufacturing "numbered perfumes"[edit]
Refan is also known for its line of "numbered" perfumes, told to inspired by popular frags (or creating similar parfumed waters "in direction" of those).
While official site avoids claiming, whether a perfume number №XXX [4] has intentional similarity, "sniff-alikeness" to any known, luxe/niche/mass-market fragnances (or blocks the list for English version visitor[5]), or whether they are reverse-engineered, some individual resellers in various shops tend to make their perfumes look to be related to popular fragnances by certain perfume houses (say, Dior, Chanel etc.) by claiming their perfume is made "in direction" of some other perfumes[6] posting pictures of branded perfumes, used for creating an imitation[7].
Some shops can sell perfumes "by millilitres", e.g. by serving them in glass bottles sold separately. The appearance of such bottle is described on Parokeets as: On the bottle there’s only a round gold sticker with the number (not name) of the perfume and you receive the list of perfumes, where you can see which number is which...[8] (said reviwer also added own stickers to each bottle to "pimp up bottles").
One picture features a list with columns saying "Perfume #XXX typ perfume_X_by_another_brand"[9]. Refan's perfumes are basically listed as perfumes #XXX and "typ[e]" is used to imply possible similarity to a fragnance by different manufacturer (e.g. by a popular fragnance house).
Possible grounds for starting the "numbered perfume" practice[edit]
It is to note "the functional quality" of perfume can include the scent itself (which makes it harder to copyright it, or impossible at all in some countries). Also, in ex-USSR countries consumers of perfumery had problems with identifying proper, authenthetic perfume bottle against counterfeit bottles throughout 90's and 00's. Refan's approach, in lieu of buyer's vulnerability to counterfeit perfumes' (as in "labelled" bottles), was to offer own re-invention, own "version" of a perfume to compete with fakes, rather than genuine perfumes.
