refurbed is an Austrian online marketplace for refurbished consumer products, founded in February 2017 and headquartered in Vienna, Austria. The platform connects professional sellers with end customers across twenty-four European markets.[1][2][3][4]

refurbed does not refurbish products itself. Sellers on the platform are required to subject products to a 40-step refurbishment process and must offer a minimum twelve-month warranty.[5][6] Product categories include smartphones, laptops, tablets, household appliances, e-bikes, and sports accessories.[7]

Founding

The company was co-founded by Peter Windischhofer, Kilian Kaminski, and Jürgen Riedl in Vienna in February 2017.[4][8][9]

Funding and growth

refurbed raised a €13 million Series A in 2020[10][5], a €45 million Series B in 2021[11][12], and a $57 million Series C in 2023 led by Evli Growth Partners and C4 Ventures.[13][2] In October 2025, the company raised a further €50 million led by Alex Zubillaga and Orilla Asset Management, with participation from existing investors including Speedinvest, Evli Growth Partners, Bonsai, Almaz Capital, and C4 Ventures.[8][14]

The company reached profitability in Austria and Germany in 2022.[2] Company-wide EBITDA profitability was reported in March 2025, alongside 40% year-on-year sales growth.[8] refurbed surpassed €1 billion in cumulative GMV in 2023[9][15] and €3 billion in early 2026, at which point it also announced expansion into 12 additional European markets.[1][7]

Recognition

In September 2024, refurbed received B Corporation certification from B Lab[16]. The founding trio was named EY Entrepreneur of the Year Austria in 2023.[2]

Sustainability

refurbed measures the environmental impact of its platform in collaboration with Fraunhofer Research GmbH, using a methodology verified against ISO 14040/44 lifecycle assessment standards.[17] The platform has been cited as a case study by the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform.[18]

Competitors in its markets include Back Market and Swappie.[8]
