DISCLAIMER: THIS TEAM IS NOT CURRENTLY IN THE LEAGUE

The Regina Roses are an attempt for a ice hockey team based in Regina, but haven’t yet made it into the league. The team may be part of the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Central Division of the Western Conference, and play their home games at Brandt Centre. Their Head Coach is Ludovik Delorme, Matéo Restagno serves as General Manager, and Zachary Labine is his assistant.

Foundation (Pre-Season 2023-24)

Staff and bids

The Regina Roses were founded on May 15, 2023, by Douglas Paterson. When founding the team, Paterson immediately appointed his friend Matéo Restagno as the GM. On May 27, Paterson announced that an attempt at a 1.25 billion dollar bid on the Ottawa Senators was in discussion. [2] Later, on June 2, Zach Labine was selected to serve as Assistant GM, signing a 5 year contract. [3] This signing got a lot of attention, and brought many new fans to the team.

Signing players

The new GM and his assistant quickly chose Scott Hartnell as their Captain, Ryan Getzlaf as their Alternate-Captain, and Jordan Eberle as their Alternate-Captain, all three native to Regina.[4] These three men seemed to be committed to the team, and are sure to help it prosper in its early years. As of June 5, the complete roster is yet to come. On June 5, 2023, the team acquired access to the Brandt Centre, the current arena of the Regina Pats, for use during the 2023-2024 NHL season. If the bid is accepted, the arena is planned to debut expansion renovations. If the bid is not accepted, Paterson plans to ask the association directly for a team.

First Season (2023-24)

The team is yet to get accepted in the league, but if they don’t, they will be joining a different league.
