Reinholt Hansen
Reinholt Hansen (1581–1646) was a merchant who served as mayor of Copenhagen between 1628 and 1645.
He was the son of Hans Reinholtsen Folskenk[1] and Else Nielsdatter. He was born in Copenhagen on 29 March 1581 and was actually surnamed Folskenk, which was, however, rarely used about him. In 1594–1598 he was a scholar of commerce in Germany, but was thereafter a participant in his father's trade until his father's death in 1601.
After this, he entered the King's service; he accompanied Duke Hans to Russia in 1601 and accompanied the King in 1603 on the tribute journey to Hamburg. He then spent three years in Hungary and fought against the Turkish, then joined the Swedish War Service, but Christian IV gave him deferments and used him as an "Enspænder" (Kurér) 1607–1614.
In 1614 he was employed by the Chancellor and became a Hofmønsterskriver in 1615, but in 1628 the king appointed him as mayor of Copenhagen after he accompanied the king in Germany in 1625–1627. In 1644 he was for a time Deputy in the Army. Whether his promotion is due to his marriage in 1612 with the King's former mistress, Kirsten Madsdatter, is unknown; he thereby became the stepfather of Christian Ulrik Gyldenløve. After Kirsten's death in 1629, he married Birgitte Evertsdatter Deichmann (daughter of the mayor of Malmö, Evert Deichmann), whose connection with Corfitz Ulfeldt's house has probably raised Reinholt in reputation, but was not sufficient to prevent his dismissal as mayor in 1645 due to his dubious relationship with regard to a murder escape.
He was one of the city's most active merchants, was a member of the Icelandic Company[2][3] and had the Faroe Islands in the lease. He died in 1646. His widow then married Frantz Eberhard von Speckhahn.[4]
