Remote is a global provider of international employment and payroll solutions. The company is based in San Francisco but its entire workforce operates remotely.[1][2] It provides employer of record (EOR) services, as well as contractor management, payroll, relocation services, and international hire consulting[3].
History[edit]
Remote was founded in 2019 by Job van der Voort and Marcelo Lebre[4], and has since raised four rounds of funding. Its current investors include SoftBank, Sequoia Capital, Accel, Two Sigma and Index Ventures. Remote has raised USD 300 million in its last funding round (April 2022), corresponding to a company valuation of nearly USD 3 billion.[5][6][7][8]
In 2021, the company created a program that allows companies to freely use its Employer of Record service to hire refugees in any of the countries where they offer this service. Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Portuguese government struck a deal with Remote, enabling Ukrainian refugees to be processed for work within 20 minutes of arriving in Portugal. [9]
