Render is US-based cloud computing company that provides a platform for deploying and hosting full-stack web applications, websites, and services. The company offers managed cloud infrastructure that allows software developers to deploy complex applications without DevOps expertise.[1]
History
Render was founded in 2018 by Anurag Goel, formerly the eighth employee at Stripe.[1] The company publicly launched in April 2019 with the goal of providing an easier cloud infrastructure alternative to Amazon Web Services, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.[1]
In October 2019, Render won the TechCrunch Disrupt Startup Battlefield competition in San Francisco, receiving $100,000 in equity-free funding.[2]
Funding
Render raised $2.25 million in seed funding in April 2019, led by General Catalyst.[1] In October 2020, the company raised an additional $4.5 million in a seed extension round, also led by General Catalyst, bringing its total seed funding to $6.75 million.[3]
In November 2021, Render announced a $20 million Series A funding round led by Addition, with participation from General Catalyst and South Park Commons.[4]
In June 2023, the company raised $50 million in Series B funding led by Bessemer Venture Partners, bringing its total funding to $77.5 million.[5] At the time of the Series B, the company reported having 500,000 developers using its platform.[6]
In January 2025, Render raised $80 million in Series C funding led by Georgian, with participation from 01A, avra, and existing investors. This brought the company's total funding to $157 million.[7]
Services
Render provides a cloud platform for deploying web applications, static sites, databases, and background jobs. The platform is built on infrastructure from major cloud providers and abstracts away server management and DevOps tasks.[8]
The company's technology stack uses Go, Docker, and Kubernetes for its server infrastructure.[8] In 2022, Render became the first platform-as-a-service to offer built-in DDoS protection.[9]
In September 2024, Render became available on AWS Marketplace, allowing customers to integrate the platform into their existing AWS procurement processes.[10]
Recognition
In November 2024, Render was recognized in the inaugural Gartner Magic Quadrant for Cloud Application Platforms.[11]
