Reptilian Records started as an Underground record store in Fell's Point in Baltimore in 1989.[1] It later moved to North Howard Street and closed in 2009.[2] Since 1993 Reptilian also operates as a record label and has since released more than 150 records on vinyl, cd and cassette.[3] They are mainly specialised in Noise Rock and Punk. Releases include the very first Mastodon Ep, Pig Destroyer, The Dwarves, The Supersuckers, Negative Approach, Action Swingers, Electric Frankenstein, Buzzoven, Pg. 99, The Upper Crust, Easy Action (John Bannon from Negative Approach and Laughing Hyenas), The Heroine Sheiks (Shannon Selberg of the Cows), The Cutthroats 9 (Chris Spencer from Unsane), UXO (collaboration project of Chris Spencer from Unsane and Steve Austin from Today is the Day), Lubricated Goat, Oxes or Chat Pile. The labels releases tend to be limited vinyl editions, rereleases or compilations of old, out of print records, collaboration releases with other labels and obscure bands from the USA and also Europe. Several sub-labels and partnerships developed - Adversary Recordings, Complete Distort and Empirical Recordings - as well as a publishing house - Scapegoat Publishing.[4] After closing his shop in Baltimore in 2009, the owner Chris X moved to Philadelphia, nowadays the label resides in Denton TX. Although they released records with quite prominent artists, they never evolved into a music business label representing an exclusive rooster of artists but stayed more or less connected to the DIY punk spirit.
