The Republic of Northrop, commonly referred to as Northrop, is a satirical nation on the CyberBean SMP Season 2. It is the first and only nation on the server. It is situated north of Spawn and stretches up to the Northrop River. The largest town and capital is Northrop Village.

History

The area now occupied by Northrop was first settled in 209 BCE by Villagers from across Spawn Ocean. Traveling by boat, they reached Spawn Island but did not settle there, instead moving north to establish three communities - Northrop Village, Ty’s Village, and Eastern Village. Northrop Village, along Northrop River, was a mostly farming community comprised of wooden and terracotta buildings, and large wheat and beetroot farms. 90% of the population were farmers.

When Players began exploring the world beyond Spawn Island, a wealthy Player named CanO27sprite laid claims to all lands from Spawn River to Northrop River, encompassing Northrop Village. The area became prosperous after CanO27sprite established sugar cane farms, boosting employment for local Villagers.

Tensions began rising between Greater CyberBean SMP and CanO27sprite in early 2022 when Villagers, employed as low-wage serfs by GSBSMP, began traveling in large numbers to CanO27sprite’s land and Northrop Village for more pay and better working conditions, leaving Spawn with a labor shortage. As a result, TurtleTech_ banned immigration between Spawn and CanO27sprite’s land, further increasing tensions. He had recently commissioned an Emerald Farm, enabling him to destabilize the Emerald currency in favor of the Diamond, preferred by Players. By early summer 2022, Villagers working in CanO27sprite’s land realized they needed leadership in order to prevent any attack or threat from Greater CyberBean SMP, as well as lower inflation caused by Emerald Farming. So, on July 4th, 2022, CanO27sprite declared the independence of the Republic of Northrop from Greater CyberBean SMP with the following document:

I, CanO27sprite, on this day July 4th, 2022, hereby declare that the Great Nation of Northrop shall here, now, and henceforth be allowed to carry out all the duties and obligations of a free and independent nation.

Northrop’s borders shall, at its founding, encompass all of CanO27sprite’s existing land claims, excluding his sugar cane farms along Spawn River, and excluding the half of the Northern Bridge extending towards Spawn Island, and including Northrop Village.

Northrop shall be entitled to a leadership under President CanO27sprite.

The move was met with skepticism and controversy in Spawn but was not challenged. CanO27sprite’s first actions were establishing government. The capital city was set as Northrop Village, and CanO27sprite’s Northrop Mountain Mansion became the Presidential Palace. Road infrastructure was built to connect Northrop Village, the Presidential Palace, and new bamboo farms and farming communities in the south and Spawn. Northrop’s main exports at the time were, from greatest to least; sugarcane, bamboo, precious metals, and wheat. At this time large ore deposits were discovered and the mining industry in Northrop shot up, accounting now for 43% of Northrop’s wealth.

In late July 2022, CanO27sprite announced that he would be investing Ɇ3.3 Billion in new Iron production factories in order to challenge the TurtleTech_’s monopoly on the Iron industry, which he believed was exploiting low-wage Villagers. On July 23rd, the first Iron Factory opened, and CanO27sprite formed Steelz, an iron export company based in Northrop in order to sell Northrop’s new iron. As a result, iron shot up from 7% of Northrop’s exports to 81%. Steelz was enormously successful, easily bringing TurtleTech_’s monopoly to an end.

Early August saw the beginning of the Rocket Race, an economic race between Northrop and the Greater CyberBean SMP to produce gunpowder rockets, a very expensive commodity at the time. The race began as CanO27sprite again saw the GCBSMP’s Gunpowder monopoly as hurting peasant Villagers, so to challenge TurtleTech_’s 750gp/h production, he invested Ɇ7 Billion in the creation of two major gunpowder factories, one in Northrop and one on the Mushroom Isles. Together these farms were able to produce 1034 gp/h, exploding into the market with the Northropian brand Flyz. This economic venture resulted in Northrop surpassing GCBSMP in wealth, ending the Gunpowder and Iron races and establishing Northrop as a world power.

Government

Executive Branch

The Northropian Constitution grants executive powers to a President for Life (PFL), and new PFLs are elected by a popular vote upon the previous PFL’s death or resignation. The Vice PFL acts as an assistant to the President and assumes his powers and responsibilities while the President is traveling, sick, or somehow unable to act as President. The Presidential Cabinet consists of a Secretary of War, Labor, and State.

Legislative-Judicial Branch

The Congress of the Republic of Northrop has the powers of the Legislative-Judicial Branch. The Congress has ten (10) seats, of which the PFL and VPFL are automatically members of. New bills may be recommended by any citizen and has the right to be reviewed by Congress as soon as possible and voted on via simple majority. If it passes Congress, the President must sign it to become law.

Any legal case may be brought before the Congress and a decision may be made by a simple majority.
