Rerex is a compilation album by American experimental artist James Ferraro, released in 2016 by Aguirre Records. It is a compilation of two conjoined albums, Rerex 1 and Rerex 2, both recorded and released in 2009 on the Muscleworks Inc. imprint as part of the Summer Headrush 2009 Series.

Background

Rerex 1 and 2 both encompass the same soundscapes, to the extent that the latter can be viewed as merely a continuation of the former, rather than a departure, or standalone album. The sound of Rerex carries an aquatic theme throughout, incorporating pan-flutes as well as a heavy use of sound effects played with Casio keyboards, adding a flair of James’ unique brand of psychedelia to the mixing pot of sounds.

The album was recorded around 2009 and first issued on CDr on Ferraro's own Blogspot label, Muscleworks Inc. Later in 2016, it was released as a 3xLP on Aguirre Records.[2] It incorporates aquatic and hypnagogic sounds, alongside lo-fi and organic, but at the same time "rusted" production. The album cover is a picture of two manta rays surrounded by metallic, rusty and salted-air textures. The album received positive reviews on RateYourMusic and Discogs.
