The series is produced by John Wells Productions, Fox Entertainment, and Warner Bros. Television, with Matt Kester serves as an executive producer of the series, alongside John Wells, Daniele Nathanson, and Erin Jontow. The series stars Arielle Kebbel, Adam Demos, Robbie Magasiva, Kekoa Kekumano, Alex Aiono and Zoe Cipres.

Premise[edit]

The series follows the personal and professional lives of the heavy-water lifeguards who patrol and protect the North Shore of O'ahu, the most famous and dangerous stretch of coastline in the world.

In October 2020, it was announced that HBO Max had set up two more dramas, including a lifeguard drama series from John Wells, then titled "Ke Nui Road". It comes from John Wells Productions, Warner Bros. Television, and Animal Kingdom writer Matt Kester.[1] On June 28, 2021, the streamer has finalized to order the pilot.[2]

On April 28, 2023, it was announced that Fox has given a straight-to-series order to the series, now titled "Rescue: HI-Surf", with Fox Entertainment joined in as the production company of the series. Kester will write the first episode, and Wells will direct the first two episodes.[3] Rescue: HI-Surf has been moved to the 2024–25 season due to strike-related production delays.[4]

Casting[edit]

On November 9, 2021, it was revealed that the full cast of the pilot, such as Andrew Creer, Ethan Rich, George Mason and Kekoa Scott Kekumano were revealed.[5] On January 20, 2024, it was announced that the cast of the series, including Arielle Kebbel, Adam Demos and Robbie Magasiva were unveiled. Sea Shimooka would also appear in a recurring role.[6] On May 7, 2024, it was announced that Shawn Hatosy and Ian Anthony Dale would both appear in a recurring role.[7]

Release[edit]

The series is scheduled to premiere in the 2024–25 season on Fox. It will also air on CTV in Canada on the same day it will simulcast in the United States.
