About Research Supported by FAPESP
Research Supported by FAPESP, from The São Paulo Research Foundation.[1], is one of the institutional tools that contribute to ensure citizens the right of access to information on research grants and scholarships granted by the Foundation in all areas of knowledge. Also, it enables the exchange of metadata related to these research projects with other academic information systems. The technical work is carried out through modern resources of Information and Communications Technology, according to international rules and standards of information management for content organization in digital media.
Through its public interfaces in Portuguese and English, Research Supported by FAPESP information system provides the following data on research grants: Principal investigator and awardee, project title and abstract as well as complementary identifying information on FAPESP granted projects[2]
Some value-added products are available at Research Supported by FAPESP: pages of principal investigators and awardees of research projects; maps and graphs concerning the support provided by FAPESP; concise pages on national and international cooperation agreements and the corresponding research grants and scholarships awarded by FAPESP; home research institutions; scientific and academic publications resulting from granted research projects; subjects; FAPESP classification schemes.
Goals
- To promote and disseminate referential information to civil society on research grants awarded by FAPESP in the State of São Paulo;
- To foster access to scientific and technological knowledge at national and international levels, through the dissemination of referential information on research supported by FAPESP in all areas of knowledge;
- To preserve and disseminate FAPESP institutional memory.

- Scientific and technological community in Brazil and abroad, involved in generation, dissemination, use and preservation of scientific knowledge;
- Grantees of FAPESP programs;
- FAPESP Board of Directors, Management Staff and Sectors;
- Civil society, to become aware of FAPESP’s contribution for the development of scientific knowledge.
Background
Research Supported by FAPESP was planned in 2003, according to the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) proposal report for the National Policy on Science and Technology Memory Preservation[3] in Brazil. This virtual library was created in 2004 and was launched in 2005. BV FAPESP, managed at the Information and Documentation Center, provides referential information on scholarships and research projects granted by FAPESP. It is built on modern resources of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and on international rules of information processing.
