Resilient City For Adolescent

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Resilient City For Adolescent project is a project led by the Global media foundation and partners, the project started on 01/04/2023 and will end at 01/03/2026.[1] The CEO of the Resilient City For Adolescents is called Mr. Rafael Godlove Ahenu who happens to be the CEO of Global Media Foundation as well.

The project aims to build a resilient city system by integrating city planning and policies that support adolescent-friendly environments. It encourages adolescents to actively participate in urban development, health planning, education, employment, and policy reviews. This involvement will help enhance public services, ensuring they meet a minimum quality standard for adolescents in Sunyani .[2] There is a need, therefore, for the city to empower adolescents by increasing their capacities and decision-making power and by advancing their rights and general health and wellbeing.[3]

They have zoned Sunyani into nineteen (19) constituencies, and we have elected MPs within these constituencies. It’s the same as Ghana’s parliament. So they have their speaker, minority and majority leaders. They identify issues at their community level and bring them to parliament for discussion. After the discussion, we then bring it to the stakeholders forum,” the GLOMEF CEO detailed. Master Frimpong Sarkodie Daniel happens to be the main Speaker of the Sunyani Adolescent Parliament and Kabore Ibrahim being the 1st Deputy with Forson Lawrence as the 2nd Deputy.[4]

Key Interventions

The project will focus on addressing the main concerns of adolescents in Sunyani through the following initiatives:

  • Enhancing access to high-quality, affordable healthcare, education, and social services to help mitigate issues such as smoking, drug abuse, and mental health challenges.
  • Expanding job opportunities for young people, ensuring fairness and providing adolescents with avenues to learn, grow, and contribute to society.
  • Engaging adolescents in city planning and development, including areas like security, healthcare, housing, and education.
  • Promoting the use of innovative technology for youth advocacy. An online platform will be developed, allowing young people to monitor, interact, learn, and share insights on challenges and positive developments in their city. This initiative aims to strengthen advocacy efforts and drive meaningful changes that support the growth and well-being of adolescents in Sunyani.[5][6]
