Resmi R Nair is an Indian women’s rights activist and model from Kerala, India. She was the co-founder of the 2014 Kiss of Love protest in Kerala.[1]
Early life and background
Resmi was born in Kollam district of Kerala. She completed her schooling from her native town Pathanapuram in Kollam district. After completing her graduation in Electronics and Communication Engineering, she joined Tata Consultancy Services as an Associate.[citation needed] In 2010, she left the job and started actively involving in modelling.[2] Resmi married social activist Rahul PS and they have two children.[3]
Career
Resmi was the co-founder of Kiss of Love protest in Kerala.[4] It was a non-violent protest against moral policing which started in Kerala, and later spread to other parts of India.[5][6] Resmi is also a model; in December 2013 the Deccan Chronicle reported that she had been chosen in Playboy's online "Miss Social" contest.[7]
Legal case
In November 2015 Nair, her husband Rahul Pasupalan and six other people were arrested by the Crime Branch of the Kerala Police and accused of running an online sex racket. They were charged under sections 366A (procuring a minor girl), 370(1) (exploitation of a trafficked person) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. In February 2016 the Kerala High Court granted the couple bail because no chargesheet had been filed within 90 days of the arrest.[8] Nair was released after about ten months in custody in total.[9]
In December 2019 the Crime Branch filed a chargesheet against 13 accused, including the couple, before a POCSO court.[10] The couple has said it is innocent and was framed by the police because of its involvement in the Kiss of Love campaign.[9] No verdict has been reported in the available sources.
