Rethnam Sivalingam known as Master Sivalingam (28 March 1933 – 11 May 2022) was a children's Story writer and speaker from Eelam. He excelled in many fields like poetry, children's stories, children's songs, archery, comic speech and drama..[1]

Life Note[edit]

Master Sivalingam was born in 1933 in Manchanthoduvai, Batticaloa district of Sri Lanka to Ratnam teacher and Chelathangam. Shivalingam was born fifth in a family of six. Chen did his primary education at Marysu School. He lived in a town called Uppodai. For fifty years he has been a children's story teller.[2]

He also worked as a storyteller in the Batticaloa Municipal Council. He has studied Cartoon Art and Willisai Art for one year at Chandanu Art College, Chennai.

Bulavarmani A. Periyathampillai took him to Colombo and introduced him to his uncle Saravanamuthu, who was conducting a children's flower show on Sri Lankan radio.[2] Since then he started telling stories on Sri Lankan radio. Later his programs were also broadcasted on Sri Lankan television. Based out of Colombo, Dinapathy worked as an assistant editor at Chintamani magazines.

He married Mangaiyarkarasi, daughter of Master Shivalingam Pandit Bhupalallai.[2]

  • Batticaloa Writers' Promotion Center's 2013 Tamil Language Award and a prize of Rs.15,000 for children's literature titled Anbu Tanta Pariyya[3]
