Revue Spirite is a monthly spiritist journal founded in 1858 by Allan Kardec[1]. Currently published, the journal is International Spiritist Council's official journal and translated into seven languages (English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, German and Esperanto).
History of Revue Spirite
First publication period
Founded by Allan Kardec (Hippolyte Leon Denizard Rivail) in January 1858 and maintained until his death in March 1869. Pierre-Gaëtan Leymarie launched new editions with Amélie Boudet’s help.
Revue Spirite was suspended during Great War (1914 to 1916) or World War II (1940 to 1947) and was republished with the support of the spiritist community. For example, Leon Denis in 1916 or Hubert Forestier in 1947. At that time, Arthur Conan Doyle contributed to the Revue[2] when in 1926 "Revues Spirites" was noted in many locations, for instance Yale University, Harvard University, Trinity College Dublin or University of Manchester.[3]
In 1977 André Dumas put an end to the journal, which renamed itself "Renaître 2000" (Rebirth 2000) as a psychic, spiritualist and spiritist journal.[3]
Second publication period
Late 1989, the court of Meaux ordered André Dumas to transfer journal rights to Roger Perez (French and Francophone Spiritist Union president). The Revue was published as a spiritist journal again.
In 2000, the International Spiritist Council obtained the rights by donation. Encouraging translated editions, The Spiritist Magazine was edited in 2011 for English editions.
Even if rival paid magazines are presently still published, International Spiritist Council ceased all printed editions in favour of free digital editions since October 2020.
