Ria Bosman
Ria Bosman (Beveren-Waas, 1956) is a Belgian artist, living and working in Ghent.[1] In 1979 she graduated in monumental arts at Sint-Lucas in Ghent. Typical of the work of Ria Bosman is the combination of traditional painting techniques and the stacking of several textile layers on canvas. Her work can be found in private and public collections in Europe, such as the collection of Design Museum Gent.[2]
Biography[edit]
Over the course of 40 years, Bosman has developed a rich oeuvre in which color and shape are central. She investigates the effect of colors on colors, refined shapes, their proportions and the differences in light effects on colored surfaces. The monumental hand-woven natural flax cloths serve as a canvas for examining color tonality and their mutual relationships. They have been applied layer upon layer with great care, creating a radiant depth in which you as a spectator can disappear and time seems to stand still. The works evoke a universal power, reminiscent of Paul Klee and his peers, and a feeling of ecstasy and silence, contemplation and balance.[3]
