Ricardo "Demente" Abreu (born April 27, 1984 in Ribeirão Preto, Brazil) is a Brazilian mixed martial artist. He was a finalist on The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 3.[1]

Jiu-Jitsu career

Abreu is a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and won numerous titles in the sport, most notably the 2010 World Professional Championship in Abu Dhabi as a black belt.[1][2]

Mixed martial arts career

The Ultimate Fighter

Abreu won his preliminary bout against Willian Steindorf by technical knockout in the second round.[5]

In the quarterfinals, Abreu faced Guilherme Vasconcelos. In a very close fight, Abreu won by unanimous decision after two rounds.[6]

In the semifinals of the event, Abreu was defeated by Márcio Alexandre Jr. via split decision after three rounds.[7]

Ultimate Fighting Championship

Abreu fought at the finale of TUF Brazil 3 on May 31, 2014 at UFC Fight Night: Miocic vs. Maldonado against Wagner Gomes. He won via rear-naked choke submission in the second round.[8][9]

Abreu was expected to face Daniel Sarafian on June 6, 2015 at UFC Fight Night: Boetsch vs. Henderson. However, an injury forced Sarafian out of the bout and he was replaced by Jake Collier. In a closely contested and action-packed fight, Abreu lost by split decision, marking his first professional MMA defeat.[10]

Abreu was expected to face Dan Kelly on November 15, 2015 at UFC 193. However, Abreu suffered an injury and was replaced by Steve Montgomery.[11]
