Rich Ting (born June 12) is an American film and television actor, best known for his role as "Bolo" in the upcoming Cinemax series Warrior (TV series).[1]

Early life[edit]

Ting was born in Los Angeles, California and is of Chinese and Japanese descent. He was a five-sport athlete growing up and played collegiate football at Yale University while earning a B.A. After achieving a dual J.D./M.B.A. degree, Ting choose to switch career paths and pursued his interest in the entertainment world. Along the way, Ting became proficient in Spanish, Korean, Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese.[2]

Career[edit]

Ting began his career as an actor began in Los Angeles when he was cast in the TV series, “Beyond the Break”. Additional TV credits include NCIS: Los Angeles, Supergirl (TV series), Rush Hour (TV series), The Messengers (TV series), Chicago P.D. (TV series), “The Novice”, and Boston Legal.

Ting then went on to film in Asia after being cast for the lead role of “Xon Sa Ma” in the historic film, “Huyen Su Thien Do”, commemorating one thousand years of Thang Long – Hanoi. He also starred as “Michael” in a Korean-based drama television series, “Two Families”.

In 2013, Ting made his Korean debut in the KBS Korean Broadcasting System espionage TV drama series entitled, Iris II: New Generation. Cast for the role of North Korean terrorist, “Lee Cheol Min”, Ting starred alongside Korean actors Jang Hyuk, Lee Da-hae, Lee Beom-soo, Oh Yeon-soo, Im Soo-hyang, MBLAQ's Lee Joon, BEAST's Yoon Doo-joon, and Baek Sung Hyun. “Iris II: New Generation”, is the sequel to 2009's “Iris”.[3]

Also in 2013, Ting appeared in the film “Lone Survivor” as “James Suh” opposite Mark Wahlberg and Taylor Kitsch. Additional film credits include “Make Your Move”, “No Tears For The Dead”, and “Real”.

In 2018, Ting appeared in the Paramount Network limited series, “Waco”. “Waco” chronicles the 1993 standoff between the FBI and ATF and the Branch Davidians, a spiritual sect led by David Koresh, told from several perspectives of those most intimately involved in both sides of the conflict. Ting recurs in the series as Lon Horiuchi, who was an FBI sniper during Waco. The series co-stars Taylor Kitsch, Melissa Benoist, and Julia Garner and premiered on the Paramount Network on January 24, 2018.[4][5]

In Spring 2019, Rich will star in the upcoming Cinemax drama series “Warrior”. The 10 episode series is inspired by the writings and work of martial arts icon Bruce Lee. The series will be a period crime drama set against the backdrop of the brutal Tong Wars in San Francisco's Chinatown in the late 1800s. Ting will play the universally feared fighter and top lieutenant of the Hop Wei Tong, “Bolo”. The series from “Fast & Furious” Justin Lin and “Banshee” co-creater Jonathan Trooper, is being filmed in Cape Town, South Africa.[6][7]

Ting recently shot the short drama film “Prisoner of Mind” in New Mexico.[8]

Stunts[edit]

Ting has a background in martial arts with a 1st degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, Jeet Kune Do, and Wing Chun. Ting performed stunts featured in “Stand Up Guys”, “The Green Hornet”, “Salt”, “Ben 10: Race Against Time”, “Gamer”, “G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra”, “Deadly Impact”, “Crank 2: High Voltage”, and “Mask of the Ninja”.[9]

Modeling[edit]

Ting has modeled in national and international commercials for Chase Credit Card, McDonald's, and Motorola. He continues to model overseas and in the U.S. has appeared in print and on the runway for such designers and brands as: Gucci, Samsung, Kenzo, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana, American Rag, Roberto Cavalli, Gianni Versace, Giorgio Armani, Calvin Klein, Banana Republic, Gap, Adidas, Saks Fifth Avenue, Guess, Kenneth Cole, Macy's, Bvlgari, Neiman Marcus, Tiffany & Co., Marc Ecko, and Express.[10]
