Richard Askam is a journalist and sports presenter for BBC North West Tonight. He also regularly works for BBC Sport and BBC Breakfast.
Early Life: Askam was born in Abercorn in Zambia. He grew up in Preston, Lancashire.
Education: University of Birmingham. University of Central Lancashire.
Life and career: Askam worked in Japan for the Japanese Ministry of Education. He began his broadcasting career at BBC Radio Lancashire where he worked as a reporter and presenter. He moved to BBC North West Tonight, becoming the main sports presenter. A multi-award-winning journalist, he has covered many major sporting events for television and radio for the BBC and Olympic Broadcasting Services. He is an MC and events host.
Personal Life: Askam is connected to a number of local charities including Joining Jack and Place 2 Place FC. A keen sportsman, he has a black belt in karate. He is married with two children and lives in Preston.
