R. D. Rosen (born 1949) is an American writer of mystery novels, narrative nonfiction, and the coiner of the word “psychobabble,” which he first used in 1975 in a book review for The Boston Phoenix, and which became the basis of his 1977 book, Psychobabble: Fast Talk and Quick Cure in the Era of Feeling. His first of five mystery novels, all featuring baseball player-turned-private detective Harvey Blissberg, was named a 1984 New York Times Notable Book of the Year and won the Edgar Allan Poe Award for Best First Novel in 1985

After publishing a book of essays, Me and My Friends, We No Longer Profess Any Graces (1971), he served as columnist, restaurant reviewer, and art editor for The Boston Phoenix. In the early 1980s, he was a feature reporter for WGBH-TV’s Ten O’Clock News and co-wrote and starred in The Generic News, a comedy special that aired nationally on PBS. Following his move to New York and stints at ''Saturday Night Live'', the CBS national news division, Workman Publishing, and ESPN Books, Rosen turned to writing narrative nonfiction books, including A Buffalo in the House: The True Story of a Man, an Animal, and the American West (2007); New York Times bestseller Such Good Girls: The Journey of the Holocaust’s Hidden Child Survivors (2014); and Tough Luck: Sid Luckman, Murder Inc., and the Rise of the Modern NFL (2019), the true story of NFL quarterback Sid Luckman, whose mobbed-up father murdered his own brother-in-law and died in Sing Sing Correctional Facility, never having seen his son play in college or during his hall of fame career with the [[Chicago Bears. He is currently completing a book about John Singer Sargent and J. Frank Currier, titled Sargent’s Shadow: The Story of An Immortal Artist, a Forgotten Genius, and the Most Famous Watercolors in the World.

Along the way, he has co-written several humor books, among them the bestselling Bad Cat, Bad Dog,Bad President, and Throw the Damn Ball: Classic Poetry by Dogs. His essays, articles, and reviews have appeared in the New York Times, New York Magazine, USA Today, The New Republic, and the Washington Post Magazine, among others.

PERSONAL LIFE He was born and raised in Highland Park, Illinois, the third of four children of Sol and Carolyn Rosen, and attended Highland Park public schools, Brown (one year) and Harvard, graduating in 1972. He has two daughters, Lucy and Isabel, with his former wife, the writer Diane McWhorter, and currently lives in Riverdale, New York, with partner Ivy Austin (helloivyaustin.com).
