Rick Fedrizzi
Rick Fedrizzi is an American business executive, author, and co-founder of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in 1993 along with co-founders David Gottfried and Mike Italiano. USGBC is a nonprofit organization that created the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating system.
- Fedrizzi served as CEO of USGBC from 2001 to 2016, and was the Founding Chair. He also served as CEO of the USGBC sister organization, Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI).
- Fedrizzi has served as CEO and Chairman of the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) since 2016. IWBI founder Paul Scialla convinced him to put off retirement to run the organization.[1]
- Fedrizzi served on the Board of the Center for Health and the Global Environment at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.[2]
At USGBC's annual Greenbuild International Conference & Expo, Fedrizzi spoke alongside United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2013.[3]
Early Life
Fedrizzi is a native of Syracuse, New York. He graduated from Le Moyne College in Syracuse with an accounting degree in 1976[4], then earned a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Syracuse University. His first job was delivering newspapers at age 14 in Syracuse, NY. [5] Early in his career he worked at Carrier Global, an American air conditioning company.[4]

Fedrizzi is author of, Greenthink: How Profit Can Save the Planet, ISBN 978-1633310056. [5] Actor and environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio wrote the foreword to the book.
