Richard "Rick" Steeves (born Dec. 13, 1967) is an American travel writer and travel blogger[1], often confused with the well-known travel writer Rick Steves. He is the author of Istanbul to Ireland: A Solo Cyclist's Journey[2].

Career[edit]

Prior to turning his pursuits towards writing, Steeves delivered pizzas and worked at a parapsychology lab, a Japanese moving company, and several hospitals[3] before embracing a career in information technology.

Steeves was also an active participant in the non-profit Society for Creative Anachronism as Corwyn Sinister[4], authoring the definitive article on making a coat of Wisby plate armor[5][6]. He served for several years as the President for the Southeastern US (the Kingdom of Atlantia), and still maintains the regional database.[7]

Personal life[edit]

When not wandering about the globe, Steeves lives in Durham, North Carolina with his wife Marnie and his two standard poodles, Tanner and Zloty. Rarely cycling in the U.S., Steeves can normally be found whitewater kayaking[8], playing and reviewing board[9]and computer games[10], fixing his house, or volunteering with the American Red Cross for disaster relief.

Steeves was the 2016 world champion at Roborally.[11]
