Riddle Stones
Riddle Stones is a puzzle game developed by Ooblada available on Facebook as well as on Android and iOS operating systems. It takes the principle of Picross (Hanjie in Japanese) which is a game of logic and solitary reflection to solve a grid and produce a drawing by filling boxes based on clues left on the side and the top of the grid.[1].
General Information
Developer: Ooblada
Release: 2013
Genre: Puzzle
Platforms: Android, iOS and Facebook
Gameplay
In Riddle Stones, the goal is to solve puzzle grids by clicking on the correct squares but not on the incorrect ones. To do this, use the indices on the left side and the top of the grid. Each number indicates a group of consecutive good squares. In cases where there are several numbers per row / column, it means that the good square groups are separated by bad squares[2]
Storyline
The main character of Riddle Stones is Carmen, a young adventurer looking for hidden treasures. She will explore all around the world and solve puzzles to obtain precious artefacts. We also find Carmen in other games from Ooblada Studio including Treasure Madness
Differences between the Facebook version and the mobile versions
On Facebook, there are different kinds of levels. Star levels where you have to finish the level in a given time to get the best score (3 stars) and treasure levels where you just have to discover the treasure drawing to get this treasure but the time does not matter.
Conversely, on mobile, there is no time to pass the levels and the number of stars obtained depends only on the number of errors made. There are no treasure levels either, so the goal is to move through the different levels of the game across multiple regions of the world.
Business Model
Riddle Stones is a free-to-play with possible in-app purchases to help progression [3]. The business model is also based on advertisements that can be removed by purchasing an ad-free version.
