Early Life[edit]
Rika Ishige was born and raised in Thailand. Her father was a Japanese Judo trainer and her mother is Thai. She started training martial arts at 9 years old to protect herself from bullies. She studied Aikido, Karate, and Taekwondo. Then when she was in her twenties she studied Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai. Eventually she took a break to focus on her studies.[2]
She graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the Civil Aviation Training Center and did office work thereafter. Her interest in sports led her to quit her job and take up martial arts again.[3]
Martial Arts Career[edit]
Ishige made her Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu debut in 2016. She represented Thailand at the Copa De Bangkok and won a gold medal.[4]
She made her professional mixed martial arts debut on March 11, 2017 at ONE Championship: Warrior Kingdom. She won by TKO in round one against Audreylaura Boniface Raphael.[5]
On May 26, 2017, she defeated Nita Dea by rear-naked choke in round one at ONE Championship: Dynasty of Heroes.[6]
On August 5, 2017, she lost to Jomary Torres by rear-naked choke in round two at ONE Championship: Kings and Conquerors.[7]
On December 9, 2017, she defeated Rome Trinidad by a rear-naked choke in round two at ONE Championship: Warriors of the World.[8]
On March 24, 2018, she lost to Angelie Sabanal by unanimous decision at ONE Championship: Iron Will.[9]
On October 6, 2018, she defeated Bozhena Antoniyar by technical knockout in round one at ONE Championship: Kingdom of Heroes.[10]
On February 16, 2019, she lost to Nou Srey Pov by unanimous decision at ONE Championship: Clash of Legends.[11]
On October 12, 2019, she lost to Itsuki Hirata by armbar in round two at ONE Championship: Century Part I.[12]
