Rima Nakabayashi (中林里茉, Nakabayashi Rima, née Yokoi; born March 26, 2004), known mononymously as Rima (Korean: 리마; Japanese: リマ), is a Japanese rapper and singer. She is a member of the Japanese girl group NiziU formed by JYP Entertainment and Sony Music Japan.
Early life
Rima was born in Tokyo, Japan[1] on March 26, 2004,[2] to Zeebra, a Japanese hip hop rapper, and Miwa Nakabayashi, a Japanese model. She has two older paternal half-brothers, Ren and Kento, and an older sister, Kanon.[3] She was educated at Aoba-Japan International School, followed by International School of the Sacred Heart,[4] which she only attended for the first semester. After that, she moved to South Korea to pursue her dreams of becoming a K-pop idol. Following her parents' divorce in November of 2020,[5] Rima's mother received full custody of her and her sister.
Pre-debut
In February of 2019, she officially became a trainee at JYP Entertainment. Rima was a participant in the reality survival program Nizi Project, where in its second season she was one of 13 finalists[6] that competed to secure a debut spot in the new girl group. Since she, along with NiziU members Mako and Miihi, trained together at JYP Entertainment, they made it a goal to debut together.[7] Ranking overall in third place, she joined the official line-up.[8][unreliable source?] Making the show's end, it was revealed the girl group's name was NiziU.[9][unreliable source?]
