Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies
Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies is a popular tourist attraction located in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. It is one of three aquariums owned and operated by Ripley Entertainment. Ripley's Aquarium is considered an iconic tourist destination in the resort town of Gatlinburg, located within the Great Smoky Mountains.
Attraction[edit]
Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies opened in 2000 as the third aquarium sponsored by Ripley Entertainment, following their other two aquariums in Toronto and Myrtle Beach being the other two. The 6-acre attraction was designed by HHCP, and it holds one million gallons of water[1]. Since its opening, the award-winning aquarium has had over 15 million visitors as one of Gatlinburg's and even the state of Tennessee's most popular attractions. Various travel agencies consider it to be one of the top five aquariums in the United States, as well as the best penguin exhibit.[2]

The aquarium features dozens of massive tanks and indoor exhibits housing thousands of marine species.[3][4] The central exhibit is a massive walk-through tank where various species can be viewed from all angles.
