Ritesh Jain is an Indian financial expert, macro investor, and the founder of Pinetree Macro, a hedge fund focused on global macro strategies. He previously served as Chief Investment Officer (CIO) at Tata Mutual Fund, BNP Paribas Mutual Fund, and Canara Robeco Asset Management Company. In 2019, LinkedIn recognised him among the top three global influencers in Economy and Finance.[1]
Early life and education
Jain holds a Master’s degree in Business Economics from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore, and an Executive MBA from the Haskayne School of Business, University of Calgary. He has also attended classes at the New Austrian School of Economics in Munich, Germany.[2][3]
Career
Banking (1997–2002)
Jain began his career in 1997 at Corporation Bank in trade finance, and later moved to IDBI Bank as a treasury manager until 2002.[3]
Asset management (2002–2018)
From 2002 to 2008, he headed fixed income at Kotak Asset Management Company.[3]
He served as CIO at Canara Robeco Asset Management Company from 2008 to 2013, during which he received the CNBC-TV18–CRISIL Mutual Fund Award for Debt Fund Manager of the Year (2012).[4]
In May 2013, he was appointed CIO at Tata Mutual Fund, managing assets of about ₹40,000 crore, before resigning in December 2016.[5][6]
He later served as CIO at BNP Paribas Mutual Fund from June 2017 to June 2018, leading investment teams managing around US$1.2 billion.[7][8]
Entrepreneurial ventures
In August 2022, Jain founded Pinetree Macro, a Canada-based hedge fund specialising in active asset allocation using US-listed ETFs and ETNs.[9] In February 2024, he launched Nrizen, a strategic advisory firm.[10]
Investment philosophy
Jain’s approach centres on liquidity cycles and global capital allocation. His Brave New World thesis argues that the world economy is shifting from a unipolar to a multipolar structure with implications for currencies and asset prices.[11][12]
He frequently writes on the impact of central bank policy on markets and has articulated constructive views on India’s prospects in manufacturing, electrification and defence technology.[13][14][15][16][17]
