Description[edit]

The hotel was built in 1720 along side the River Lark[3]. The restaurant is located at the heart of the hotel in this 18th century thatched barn with a heavy beamed interior and views of the garden to the rear of the hotel which lead up to the River Lark [4]. The hotel offers 15 rooms with 15 en suites. The hotel is four stories tall and is, as of June, 2018, open 7 days a week. The hotel shares a parking lot with "Drakes Bar", a shared establishment offering light snacks and local drinks.

Awards and Criticisms[edit]

The hotel has received both awards and criticisms. In January of 2008, two food inspectors from the Forest Heath District Council made the grim discovery of multiple food violations. Specifically, the 3-Star hotel was fined £18,000 for six food hygiene breaches, £12,000 for selling unsafe food plus £8,000 in costs at the region's magistrate's court[5]. According to other sources, the Oxford Hotels & Inns Owner of the Riverside hotel was fined for "the poorest anyone has ever seen", according to officials[6]. However, new management was presented with West Suffolk's Eat Out, Eat Well award in December of 2017 for being accredited for using healthy ingredients and providing healthy food preparations[7].

Proximity to Royal Air Force Installations[edit]

The Riverside House Hotel is located between two predominantly large military locations, Royal Air Force Lakenheath and Royal Air Force Mildenhall. The population of personnel between the two military installations is approximately 7,000 military personnel. Much of the Riverside House Hotel customers come from this population. However, the base of Royal Air Force Mildenhall is set to close in the year 2023 which could affect the clientele of the Riverside House Hotel[8]
