Albert Anatolyevich Rizvanov (Russian: Ризванов Альберт Анатольевич; Date of birth: December 17th, 1974. Place of birth:  Kazan, Russia) – Professor, Dr. Sci, Ph.D., Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan. Areas of research interest: regenerative medicine, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, virology. He is an author of numerous scientific papers and patents, as well as educational and methodological manuals and monographs.

Biography

Albert A. Rizvanov was born in Kazan, Russia in 1974. He graduated from School №7 in Kazan, Russia with a gold medal.

In 1996 he graduated from Kazan State University (currently Kazan Federal University), Kazan, Russia. From 1995 to 2003, he completed postgraduate studies at the University of Nevada, Reno, USA and received Ph.D. degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology. From 2003 to 2006 he worked as a post doctoral scientist in Department of Microbiology, University of Nevada, Reno, USA.

In 2006, he was invited to lead a laboratory at Kazan State University and returned back to Russia.

In 2011 he received Dr. Sci. degree in biological sciences (Biochemistry).

From 2012 to 2013 he served as Deputy Director for Research at the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology, Kazan Federal University. From 2012 to 2014 he worked as Head of the Department of Genetics.

In 2016 he was elected as Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan (specialty "Cellular Biology").

Since 2016 he is Deputy Head of the Strategic Academic Unit "Translational 7P Medicine" and Head of the Center of Excellence "Regenerative Medicine" in the framework of the Program of Competitive Growth of Kazan Federal University (Program 5-100).

Currently he is Chief Scientist, Professor at the Department of Genetics, Head of the OpenLab "Gene and Cell Technologies" at the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology, Head of the Exploratory Research Department of Pharmaceutical Research and Training Center, Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University.

He is married and has a son and daughter

Areas of research interest:

Gene and stem cell technologies for regenerative medicine;

Molecular neurobiology;

Molecular virology (retroviruses, adenoviruses, adeno-associated viruses, hantaviruses and other hemorrhagic fever viruses, cytomegaloviruses);

Cancer diagnostics and therapy (cancer stem cells, circulating tumor cells, chemoresistance, tumor microenvironment, screening models, gene and cell therapy, immunotherapy).

In 2018, Albert Rizvanov was recognized as a head of Leading scientific school in Russian Federation (grant from the President of the Russian Federation "Investigation of the fundamental mechanisms of regeneration occurring in muscle tissue in normal and in ischemic lesion against the background of gene therapy").

He is the author of more than 240 scientific papers in international and Russian peer-review journals, as well as 17 patents. Under his supervision 11 Ph.D. students and 1 Dr.Sci. successfully defended their theses. His h-index is 17 and his publications are cited over 1000 times.

Honors

• 2009 - Prize of the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan for state support of young scientists.

• 2015 - Certificate of Honor of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tatarstan for long-term productive work in the system of higher professional education.

• 2017 - Prize of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan named after V.A. Engelgardt in the field of biology for the cycle of works "Gene and Cellular Therapy in Regenerative Medicine" (in co-authorship with A.P. Kiyasov and R.R. Islamov).
