Roambee is an American IoT and supply chain management company that provides supply chain visibility technology[1][2] for several industries, including the food industry[3][4] and the pharmaceutical industry.[5][6][7] It is headquartered in Santa Clara, California and has other offices around the world.[8]
History
Roambee was founded in 2014.[9] Its CEO is Sanjay Sharma, also a co-founder along with Vidya Subramanian.[10] Prior to Roambee, Sharma co-founded the companies KeyTone Technologies and Plexus Technologies.[11][12] Roambee has multiple patents for its wireless tracking methods.[13]
Roambee partnered with Deutsche Telekom's T-Systems in 2017, which provided cloud services for Roambee.[14]
Burglary incidents
Roambee's offices were the site of a burglary in 2017. Thieves stole GPS tracking sensors and were apprehended within hours of the incident. A similar incident happened in July 2021, when another group of thieves stole a package containing Roambee’s GPS trackers meant for a customer to track their COVID-19 vaccines.[15] The thieves were arrested after police used the GPS trackers to receive hourly updates on their location.[16][15]
Recent history
Roambee started working with Telkom Indonesia in 2018.
In 2019, T-Mobile US announced it would start selling what it claims to be the first asset tracking solutions in the United States in partnership with Roambee.[17]
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Roambee provided real-time logistics monitoring for distribution of clinical trials for COVID-19 vaccines.[18][19][20][21] Roambee also provided shipment monitoring for semiconductors during the global computer chip shortage in 2021.[22]
In February 2021, Temasek-backed Reefknot Investments made a strategic investment into Roambee.[23]
In June 2021, PSA unboXed, a subsidiary of terminal operator PSA International, invested in Roambee to co-create a verifiable item-level, multimodal FCL/LCL visibility solution and ocean milestone standard backed by first-hand sensor and port operations intelligence.[24][25]
In October 2021, Roambee partnered with Transporeon, a digital freight platform, to boost real-time transport visibility, carrier telematics and multimodal shipping visibility and intelligence.[1][26]
Roambee was chosen as one of the winners of the FDA’s “New Era of Smarter Food Safety Low- or No-Cost Tech-Enabled Traceability Challenge” in 2021 for its joint efforts with GSM and Wiliot to provide traceability for food shipments through low-cost IoT sensor tags.[27][28] Roambee was also named one of Supply and Demand Chain Executive’s “Top Supply Chain Projects winners in 2021.”[29]
In 2022, Roambee was a beta user of Lightstep Incident Response for infrastructure and service alerts.[30]
