Rob Dietz (born November 3, 1987) is an American singer, arranger[1], composer,[2] performer, director, [3] coach, vocal percussionist [4] author, and leader of the contemporary a cappella community.
Education
A native of Ithaca, NY, Rob got his start singing in high school as a member of the a cappella quintet, Ascending Height, with whom he wrote and produced the first ever album of all original music at the high school level.[5][6] He started arranging music in high school, and published his first book of arrangements with Deke Sharon at age 16.[7]
He majored in music and business at Ithaca College School of Music[8]
Career
Upon graduating from college he joined The Sing Off music team as an arranger.[9]
In 2014 he co-founded A Cappella Academy with Avi Kaplan of Pentatonix and fellow Sing-Off arranger/coach Ben Bram,[10] which trains elite young a cappella singers from all over the world each summer in Los Angeles. [11][12]
He has arranged for many scholastic and professional groups, with his arrangements being heard on America’s Got Talent.[13] He has been awarded several CARAs (Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards) from the Contemporary A Cappella Society Of America including Best Professional Arrangement for a High School Group (2024)[14] and Best Professional Arrangement for a Non-Scholastic Group (2016)[15]
He is the first National Repertoire & Resources Chair for Contemporary A Cappella for the American Choral Directors Association[16], and served as presenter and clinician for the inaugural Contemporary A Cappella Honor Choir at the Southwest Regional Conference in 2024.[17]
He has composed several modern choral pieces that are performed regularly by young ensembles,[18][19] and his arrangements are published by companies including Alfred and Lawson-Gould.[20][21]
His first book, “A Cappella 101,” is published by Hal Leonard.[22]
