Rob Ladd is an American drummer and composer, known for his work with a wide range of artists, including Alanis Morissette, Don Henley, and Roger Daltrey.[1][2] His career and drumming style have been covered on multiple occasions by Modern Drummer magazine.[1][3][4] He is also known as a member of the North Carolina-based bands The Connells and The Pressure Boys.[5] Ladd played drums on several tracks for Morissette's diamond-selling 1995 album, Jagged Little Pill.[6]
Career
Early Career and North Carolina Bands
Ladd was an active member of the North Carolina music scene, playing with bands such as The Pressure Boys and The Red Clay Ramblers.[6] He also played drums on two tracks for the 1986 album Big Plans for Everybody by seminal jangle-pop band Let's Active, led by producer Mitch Easter.[7] A significant and long-standing collaborator has been fellow North Carolina musician and producer Don Dixon, with Ladd contributing to Dixon's albums, including The Invisible Man.[6] He has also frequently collaborated with North Carolina-based musician and producer Chris Stamey, appearing on albums like New Songs for the 20th Century and The Great Escape.[6] He is the current drummer for the alternative rock band The Connells.[5]
Touring and Session Work
Ladd's drumming has been sought after by numerous internationally known artists for both studio recordings and live tours. In 1991, Ladd was the touring drummer for Susanna Hoffs following her departure from The Bangles.[8] His most high-profile recording credit came in 1995 when he shared drum duties on Alanis Morissette's album Jagged Little Pill.[6] He also appeared in the music video for the album's hit single, "Ironic".[9] Beyond these, Ladd's session drumming credits include work on albums for artists such as Vonda Shepard (Songs from Ally McBeal) and Meredith Brooks (Deconstruction).[6] His versatility also saw him contribute drums to the album Your Shoes, My Shoes by acclaimed folk singer-songwriter Tom Paxton.[6] He has recorded with The Who's frontman, Roger Daltrey.[2][10] Ladd is credited as a drummer on Daltrey's compilation albums Moonlighting: The Anthology (2004) and Gold (2006).[2][10] Ladd also toured with Eagles singer and drummer Don Henley in support of Henley's Inside Job tour.[1] More recently, he collaborated with Peter Holsapple on his album The Face of 68, which was produced by Don Dixon.[6]
Film and Television
As a composer, Ladd created original music for the TV movie The Bald Truth (1997).[11] Ladd also appeared as himself in the 2007 documentary Amazing Journey: The Story of The Who. In the film, he provided a drummer's perspective and analysis of Keith Moon's unique and influential playing style.[12][13]
