Background[edit]

Rob Miyashiro was born in Lethbridge and raised in Taber, Alberta, Canada. In November of 2021, he was nominated as the NDP candidate for the Lethbridge-East constituency 2023 Alberta General Election.[1]

Rob served two terms on Lethbridge City Council and has held leadership roles at the Lethbridge Seniors Citizens Organization (LSCO), Blood Tribe Youth Ranch, and the Rehabilitation Society of Southwestern Alberta.

Rob has three adult children and three grandchildren.[2]

Lethbridge City Council[edit]

In December 2020, Miyashiro was one of 6 councillors who voted to go forward with decreasing the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) budget by $1-million.[3]

In March 2021, after Lethbridge City Council denied a proposal for a sober shelter from the Mustard Seed and the Lethbridge Soup Kitchen, Miyashiro expressed his disappointment at the racial intolerance of those who spoke against the motion, stating they "lowered the bar of discourse when they started talking about indigenous people."[4]
