Robbie Simpson is an American actor and director best known for playing Chad ABC's General Hospital and for directing the New York City and North American National Touring productions of A Charlie Brown Christmas.
Life and Education[edit]
Robbie grew up in West Springfield, Massachusetts and began working as a child actor in the Berkshires. He attended the Syracuse University Department and graduated with a BFA in Acting. Robbie moved to New York City for a year before being accepted into The Old Globe MFA Acting Program in San Diego. California. After graduation, Robbie moved back to New York City. Robbie currently lives in Manhattan with his partner, stage director Michael Rader, and their dog Nellie.[1]
Acting Career[edit]
In 2014, Robbie made his television debut opposite Aaron Paul in the Hulu series The Path. Other television appearances include AMC's Dietland, Syfy's Can You Survive a Horror Movie?, and is currently playing Chad, the Metro Court Pool Boy, in ABC's General Hospital.
In the summer of 2017, Robbie was cast in the original off-Broadway production of Afterglow. The production, only scheduled to run for the summer, broke box office records running for almost two years, was featured on SNL, and has gone on to have commercial productions all over the world in London, Madrid, Buenos Ares and is currently running in Los Angeles.[2] In 2019, Robbie was chosen to play as Adam in a new adaptation of Paradise Lost off-Broadway starring opposite two-time Tony Award nominee Alison Fraser.[1] Additional New York stage credits include work with The Mint, The Juilliard School, New York Classical Theater, and The Gingold Group. Across the country, Robbie has performed at Old Globe, Syracuse Stage, Cape Playhouse, The Repertory Theater of St. Louis, The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey among others.[1]
Directing Career[edit]
While performing in Afterglow off- Broadway, Robbie decided to pursue a parallel career in directing.[1] Directing credits include the 2021 and 2022 National Tour and New York City productions of A Charlie Brown Christmas. The production was featured in The New York Times,[3] Newsweek,[4] and Time Out[5] as one of the Top Events of the Holiday Season[3] with performances on NBC, FOX5’s Good Day New York, and the PIX11 Morning Show.[6] Additional directing and associate credits include the Broadway National Tours of A Christmas Story and Chicago the musical, the LA production of Afterglow, Bright Star at Theatre Aspen, Cabaret at the Metropolis Performing Arts Center in Chicago,[7] Deathtrap at The Majestic Theatre, among others.[6]
Robbie is the former Associate Artistic Director of the Cape Playhouse in Dennis, Massachusetts.[1]
