Robert Coutu is the current mayor of Montréal-Est, Quebec.

Originally from Sudbury Coutu received graduate degrees from both Université du Québec à Montréal and Paris Dauphine University.[1] In 2006, after a number of years working in the private sector, Coutu was elected to the Montreal East city council and in 2009 he was elected as the Mayor of Montreal East and was re-elected again in 2013 by a margin of 6 votes.[2]During his time as Mayor, Coutu served as the Vice Chair of three separate committees of the agglomeration council of Montreal.[3] During his tenure in office Coutu over saw the economic recovery efforts made after the conversion of the Shell Canada refinery.[4] In 2018 Coutu was selected as the candidate for the Conservative Party of Canada in the 2019 Canadian federal election.[5]
