Robert Eric Frykenberg (born 8 June 1930) is an American historian, professor and author. He specialized in the history of Christianity in India.[1]
Biography
He was born on 8 June 1930 in Ooty, India to American missionary parents Carl Eric and Doris Marie (Skoglund) Frykenberg.[2][1]
Education
He completed his bachelor's degree at the Bethel University (Minnesota) in 1951.[1] He completed his Master of Arts degree at the University of Minnesota in 1953.[1] He completed his Master of Divinity at the Bethel Theological Seminary in 1955.[1] He completed his PhD at the University of London in 1961.[1] His doctoral dissertation was on the history of the modern state of Andhra Pradesh.[2]
Career
He has served as an assistant professor of history at the University of Wisconsin–Madison from 1962 to 1967.[3][1]
In addition, he also served as the Chairman of the Department of South Asian Studies at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.[3][1]
He was also a visiting fellow of All Souls College, Oxford and delivered Radhakrishnan Memorial Lectures at Oxford University in 1998.[3]
Awards and honours
He received the Guggenheim Fellowship in the year 1968 for his contributions to history.[4]
