David Robert Ramsay, known as Bob Ramsay (1864 – date unknown) was an English footballer who played at half-back. He played for Burslem Port Vale, Stoke in the 1880s. In the 1890's he played for Newton Heath, West Manchester F.C., Northwich Victoria and his career finished back at Burslem Port Vale.His main claim to fame was playing in Stoke' first ever Football league team and he scored Stoke' first ever League hat-trick.[2]

Stoke[edit]
Shutt was born in Stoke-upon-Trent and at 22 played for Burslem Port Vale for two seasons 1886-1887 and 1887-1888. He transferred to Stoke in 1888 made his league and Club debut on 8 September 1888, at wing-half for Stoke in a 2–0 defeat by West Bromwich Albion at the Victoria Ground, Stoke. He was part of a midfield that achieved achieved big (three goals or more) on two separate occasion. Ramsay remained with Stoke until 1890 and was a member of the Stoke side that were founder members of the English Football League in 1888, finishing at the bottom of the table in the inaugural season. He played in 21 league matches for Stoke. In 1889-1890 Ramsay scored four League goals for Stoke including that hat-trick.[3][4]
Later career[edit]
In 1890 Ramsay signed and played for Newton Heath (the forerunners of Manchester United F.C.) and left them in 1891 to play for West Manchester F.C. From 1892 - 1894 Ramsay was back in the Football League, this time Division 2 playing for Northwich Victoria. In the two seasons h played at Northwich he played 29 matches and scored four goals. Northwich Victoria were relegated in 1894. However, Ramsay had left before the end of the season and returned to Burslem Port Vale who were also playing in Division 2. Port Vale finished 7th. Ramsay retired in 1894 as a knee joint kept slipping out of place.[5][6]
