Robert Wun
Robert Wun is a Hong Kong-born London-based fashion designer.[1] After graduating from London College of Fashion, Wun launched his fashion brand with his name in 2014 focusing on womenswear collections.[1]
Early life and education
Wun was born and raised in Hong Kong.[2] He started to take an interest in fashion at the age of 11 after he "met a cool girl a few years older than me at my family’s church who started a course in fashion design".[3] He has also stated fashion-designer Alexander McQueen was one of his first inspirations to start fashion around the same age.[4]
Wun moved to London where he studied at London College of Fashion. He graduated in 2012.[3]
Career
Discovered by fashion relator Joyce Boutique with his graduate collection, Wun launched his own fashion brand in 2014.[1]
The label was supported by On|Off for his AW16 and SS16 collections, showcased as On|Off presents designer in London Fashion Week. The label was also nominated for the International Woolmark Prize 2016, and was commissioned by the Royal Ballet for the Wayne McGregor 10th year anniversary show in November 2016.[1] Wun Worked with choreographer Charlotte Edmonds for her new piece M E T A.[5]
In 2015, Wun was commissioned to be a guest designer for the film The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2.[6] He was also commissioned by film director Wong Kar Wai for an advertisement film shoot with actress Shu Qi, assigned to be the designer and the fashion director for the project, working alongside with fashion editor Sarajane Hoare.[7]
Commissioned by FFFriday an organisation funded by Hong Kong Government, Wun created a installation called "Concrete Forest" with Spring Summer 20 Orchid Dresses. The show cased in December 2018 in Hong Kong.[8]
Wun's clothing has caught the likes of celebrities Solange, Lady Gaga, Cardi B and Céline Dion.[3] Artists such as Lizzo and Doja Cat has also been noted to wear his collections.[2]
