Roberto Stella
Roberto Stella (22 July 1952 – 11 March 2020) was President of the Order of Doctors of the Varese province (role that he covered for several mandates, last election was in 2017), Training Strategy Area Manager for the National Federation of Doctors and Dentists (FNOMCeO), and National President of the National Interdisciplinary Medical Society of Primary Medical Care (SNAMID).

He got a degree in Medicine and Surgery at the State University of Milan in 1978, with specialization in General Ematology from Pavia in 1984. Stella was a member of the National Observatory on Training in General Medicine and a Coordinator for the specific training course in General Medicine for Lombardy. He was also a consultant for the National Health Council. An authority in his field. The mayor of Busto Arsizio Emanuele Antonelli, and an ex classmate, said he was a long-serving practitioner and patients loved him very much.[1]
He was working as a general practitioner before dying from Covid 19. He visited patients and wrote prescriptions in the outpatient clinic in Busto Arsizio until when he was hospitalized in ICU, before his death. He was admitted to the ICU of Sant'Anna Hospital in Como, on Friday 6th March, after testing positive to the coronavirus swab.
The Chief of Staff at the San Donato Hospital and VP of the President of the Order of Doctors of Varese, Saverio Chiaravalle, said of him: «He died as a hero, as he was in everyday life, especially with his patients. We had recently met around the end of February and I recommended him to slow down, to take more care of himself, and he answered as usual. We addressed each other as “brother“. And even on that occasion, he said to me “Brother, we are here to work and to fight”. And he did, until the end». He also said Stella had many appointments with leading figures of the region of Lombardy and in Rome. He was very active in scientific societies locally and at a national level.
The President of FNOMCeO said that Stella told him: "We ran out of masks. But we won't stop. We pay attention and go on".[2]
