Robin Reitsma (born April 8, 1992)[1] is a Dutch actor, singer and author. He has performed in television, in concerts, as well as in other theatrical productions.
He made his professional acting debut in 2016 as part of the ensemble of Soldaat van Oranje de Musical in the Netherlands, before he moved to Germany, where he had his breakthrough as Strat in Bat out of Hell das Musical.
Reitsma made his television debut in 2018 with a guest role on a Dutch thriller series "Ik weet wie je bent". He has since then expressed interest in making a transition from the stage to film and television.
Early life and education
Reitsma was born on April 8, 1992 as the oldest of two boys in The Hague, the Netherlands. He grew up in a single parent household. When his parents divorced when he was only 6 years old, his mother took care of him and his brother. Reitsma was educated at Segbroek College in his hometown, after which he started multiple educations, but never got to finish one of them, before studying Business.
Stage career
2012 - 2016: Amateur theatre experience
After high school Reitsma auditioned for an amateur theatre group called Theatergroep SPOT in Rijswijk where he played his very first musical. This was the start of his stage career. Roles in open air musicals by Storytellers made him gain experience on stage, as well as roles like Link Larkin in Hairspray and Peter in the musical Bare.
2016 - 2018: Career beginnings in the Netherlands
In 2016 he got offered the role of Melchior Gabor in a semiprofessional production of Spring Awakening. Production company 8 op de Schaal van Richter produced this musical at a high school in the south of the Netherlands, before deciding to kick it up a notch. For this role, Reitsma got trained by musical actors Niels Jacobs and Ton Sieben, who played Melchior in the M-Lab production of Spring Awakening years before. This role got Reitsma a nomination for the Dutch Amateur Musical Awards in the category Best Male Lead in a Musical. Unfortunately he did not win this award, but later that evening he was surprised by being honoured with the Pia Douwes Special Talent Award[2].
At the end of that year Reitsma started rehearsals as part of the cast of Soldaat van Oranje de Musical, where he started his professional acting career.
2018 - present: Transfer to Germany and breakthrough
After auditioning for the German production of Bat Out Of Hell das Musical, Reitsma landed the lead role Strat and left his homeland and moved to Germany to star in his first main role in a musical. During this stint he starred along Willemijn Verkaik (Sloane) and Alex Melcher (Falco).
Roles in productions like Rock of Ages, Mamma Mia!, Disney's Tarzan, Elisabeth and Ghost followed.
Television career
Reitsma had a guest role in a Dutch thriller TV series called Ik weet wie je bent in 2018.
Years after in 2021, Reitsma starred alongside Mark Seibert, Jan Böhmermann und Angelika Milster in Der Eierwurf von Halle[3], the musical satire episode of ZDF Magazin Royale. This musical episode became cult under the musical theatre fans in Germany.
Personal life
Reitsma currently lives in Germany, and sometimes travels back to his home country to visit family and friends. He was married to Jessica Lapp from 2020 till 2025.
