Rochester Psychiatric Center
The Rochester Psychiatric Center, formerly known as the Rochester State Hospital, is a psychiatric hospital in Rochester, New York. Originating as an insane asylum in 1857, the organization was acquired by the State of New York in 1897 and continues to run to this day.
History
In 1857, the Monroe County Alms House established a new wing to care for the mentally disabled, which was named the Monroe County Insane Asylum.[1]
The Rochester State Hospital moved into the Terrence Building in 1957.
