Rocket Stack Rank is a fanzine which reviews short science fiction and fantasy stories (under 50,000 words) and publishes articles of interest to readers of short fiction. The monthly "issue" consists of a summary of all the reviews and appears on the fifteenth of each month. Each summary is augmented with ratings from other reviewers on the first of the following month.[1]

The editors created the site in response to the Sad Puppies campaign against the Hugo Awards which resulted in no awards being given for Best Short Story and Best Novella categories in 2015. Their goal was "to create a website to encourage readers of science fiction and fantasy to read and nominate more short fiction.[2]

The editors have stated that "The site is not monetized in any way whatsoever: there are no fees, no ads, no affiliate links, and no appeals for donations, nor do we think there ever will be."[3]

Reception[edit]

Chris Meadows of Teleread described the site as "an invaluable resource in terms of describing effectively every legal way that they’ve found to obtain back-issues of these magazines electronically."[4]

Awards[edit]

Rocket Stack Rank has been a finalist for the Hugo Award for Best Fanzine for three years running: 2017[5], 2018[6], and 2019[7].
