Rocky Johnson (born July 24, 1971) is an American mixed martial artist. He is most notable for his win by submission over future UFC Lightweight Champion Benson Henderson.[citation needed]

Mixed martial arts career[edit]

Since starting his mixed martial arts career, Johnson currently holds a professional record of 22–17.[2]

Amateur mixed martial arts career[edit]

Before turning professional, Johnson debuted as an amateur for the Battlequest promotion, getting a keylock submission win over AJ Affitica at Battlequest 1 on August 23, 2003.[3] Despite already having one professional bout, Johnson faced Richard Ponce in another amateur bout at Battlequest 3 on June 26, 2004. He won the fight via rear-naked choke submission.[4]

Sparta Combat League[edit]

Johnson made his SCL debut on November 9, 2012, facing Brad Foust at SCL: Gladiators. He won the fight via first round KO. In his second fight in the promotion, Johnson challenged Dequan Townsend for the SCL Welterweight Championship at SCL: Havoc at the Hellespont on September 27, 2013. He won the fight via unanimous decision.[5]

For his first title defense, Johnson faced Matt Cox at SCL: Monarchs of Sparta on December 14, 2013.[6] He lost the fight via split decision.[7]

Personal life[edit]

Rocky owns his own business, Ugly Ear Gear since 2005. The company specializes in making wrestling and MMA gear.[8]
