Ponton gained attention on the Internet after a viral video was posted on YouTube of him being unaware that he was using a filter on a Zoom meeting that changed his appearance to one of a cat.[1]

Roy Ferguson, a judge who presided over the meeting, later tweeted about the incident, stating:

IMPORTANT ZOOM TIP: If a child used your computer, before you join a virtual hearing check the Zoom Video Options to be sure filters are off. This kitten just made a formal announcement on a case in the 394th (sound on).

Ponton told CNN that he was using his secretary's computer.[2]

The cat filter that was used by Ponton during the meeting was later found to be from a 'decades-old' piece of software, preinstalled on some older Dell laptops.[3][4]
