Rodger J. Koppa is an Associate Professor Emeritus at Texas A&M University[2]. He is a Fellow of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society[3].

Education

Koppa received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1958 as well as a Master of Arts in Experimental Psychology in 1960. He then received his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1979[2].

Career

Rodger Koppa began his career in 1961 as a Human Factors Engineer at the Ling-Temco-Vought Corporation[4].

He then began work from 1967 to 1972 as a General Electric contractor on the Apollo Spaceflight Program as a Crew Performance Specialist. In an interview with Tom Turbiville on WTAW, Dr. Koppa spoke of his efforts in the planning and crew coordination for the extravehicular activities on the lunar surface[5]. He was also a prime trainer for the Apollo 13 and Apollo 16 missions[4] working with astronauts such as Fred Haise.[6]

From 1972 to 2001, he was an Associate Research Engineer at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute[4]. From 1982 to 2001, he worked concurrently as an Associate Professor, with a specialty in Human Factors and Ergonomics, in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Texas A&M University. Koppa has been certified by the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics, albeit retired, for 25+ years[7]

Koppa is also a professional engineer, licensed by the Texas Board of Professional Engineers, and has been licensed since March 1982[8].
