Rogert Sterkaj, known popularly as Rogerti and by his stage name Rogert "La Bombaaa", is an Albanian sports journalist, television personality, and recording artist. He gained widespread national recognition in 2026 as one of the most prominent and controversial housemates on the fifth season of Big Brother VIP Albania, where he finished in fourth place as a finalist.[1]

Early life and family background

Sterkaj has roots in the Shkrel area of Malësi e Madhe in northern Albania, where the Sterkaj surname is associated with a long-standing family history of contributions to the public and economic life of the region, including the development of mountain tourism in the Razëm area.[2] Members of the same extended Sterkaj family include Paulin Sterkaj, a Socialist Party member of parliament who has represented Malësi e Madhe across several mandates, and Ferdi Sterkaj, the local Democratic Party branch chairman in Razëm and entrepreneur who operates the "Kulla e Artë" tourist complex.[2]

According to accounts Sterkaj shared during his time on Big Brother VIP Albania 5, he spent his early childhood in Albania, recalling time spent playing football with neighborhood and school friends. In 1997–1998, his father moved temporarily to Tirana before relocating to England. In August 1999, the family emigrated from Albania, traveling first through France, where they reportedly stayed for several days at a Paris train station, before settling in England.[3][irrelevant citation]

According to a biographical profile published by TeksteShqip, in 2002 Sterkaj attended high school where he studied law, philosophy, and history. He later completed university studies and worked in the retail sector of a telecommunications company in Albania, where he was named "Best Manager of the Year" in 2012.[4][user-generated source]

He subsequently transitioned to journalism. Top Channel introduced him on the show as gazetari i njohur sportiv ("the well-known sports journalist"), and his media work focused primarily on sports coverage prior to his appearance on reality television.[1][4]

Personal life

According to statements Sterkaj made on Big Brother VIP Albania 5, between 2008 and 2015 he struggled with sports betting and gambling, which caused significant tension within his family. He has said that in July 2015 his parents asked him to leave the family home and that he briefly lived with his aunt, describing the period as a personal "rock bottom."[5]

On 21 September 2015, at a friend's wedding, Sterkaj met his future wife, Enxhi, whom he has publicly described as "my angel." The couple became engaged in December 2015 and married in 2019. Enxhi has appeared in Albanian media interviews, including on Top Albania Radio, where she discussed her relationship with Rogert and the emotional impact of his participation on their family.[6][clarification needed][7]

The fifth season of Big Brother VIP Albania aired on Top Channel from 20 December 2025 to 18 April 2026 and was hosted by Ledion Liço.[1][irrelevant citation]

Entry and gameplay

Sterkaj entered the house on Day 32 (20 January 2026) as a late entrant. His arrival was theatrically staged: he entered wearing a mask and with a secret production mission, initially presenting himself as the "ex-boyfriend" of fellow housemate Lorna. Top Channel introduced him on air with the words: "Tani po vjen njeriu që do i japi pak dashuri shtëpisë" ("Now comes the man who will give some love to the house").[1][4][user-generated source]

He quickly became one of the most discussed contestants of the season due to his outspoken, provocative, and confrontational style, engaging in heated clashes with housemates including DJ Gimbo, Mal Retkoceri, and eventual winner Selin Bollati. In an interview on Big Brother Radio with Elona Duro on 16 April 2026, Sterkaj summarised his strategy with the phrase: "I frikshëm për banorët, sepse duke qenë i frikshëm për banorët automatikisht je i dashur nga publiku" ("Feared by the housemates, because by being feared by the housemates you are automatically loved by the public").[9]

On 27 January 2026, Violetë Kukaj, the aunt of housemate Mal Retkoceri, issued a public letter demanding Sterkaj's expulsion from the show after he allegedly told her nephew "S'ke gjak shqiptari" ("You don't have Albanian blood").[10][11][12]

On 30 January 2026, the family of Selin Bollati issued an official letter to Top Channel accusing Sterkaj of "psychological violence, bullying, and serious violation of human dignity."[13][14] The production responded by issuing so-called "black envelopes" warnings and temporarily suspending the televote.[15]

Walkout incident

On 3 March 2026, following a pointed exchange with talk-show host Monika Kryemadhi during a guest segment, Sterkaj walked out of the house. After Kryemadhi told him "Të jem si mamaja e Selin apo e Mateos, të pres gjuhën nëse i thua ashtu fëmijës tim" ("If I were Selin's or Mateo's mother, I'd cut your tongue if you spoke that way to my child"), Sterkaj responded "Hapeni derën. Nuk më njihni mirë, po hapeni derën" ("Open the door. You don't know me well, but open the door") and exited.[16][17][18] Following repeated appeals from host Ledion Liço, Sterkaj returned to the house later in the same broadcast.[16][19][20]

Throughout his time in the house, Sterkaj also delivered emotional monologues about his life, gambling past, the family's emigration, and his desire to reconcile with his estranged brother, publicly stating he would shake his brother's hand if he visited the house.[21]

Final placement

In the grand finale on 18 April 2026 (Day 120), Sterkaj finished in 4th place, behind winner Selin Bollati, runner-up Armir "Miri" Shahini, and third-place finisher Mateo Borri. He spent 89 days in the house and received nominations on 16 separate occasions throughout the season.

Public reception and controversies

Sterkaj's tenure on the show featured numerous heated debates that polarised public opinion. Some viewers and the families of fellow contestants accused him of bullying and offensive remarks, leading to repeated public calls for his expulsion.[22][23][24]

Other commentators viewed him as unfiltered, strategic, and authentic. Albanian psychologist Eva Sinanaj characterised him on 29 April 2026 as "një fenomen" ("a phenomenon") reflecting broader social attitudes in Albania, noting: "Rogerti was a phenomenon, which in this case was in the male gender, but in Albanian reality there are also plenty of women who have the same approach."[25][26]

Post-finale confrontation with Ledion Liço

During the post-finale broadcast Post BBVA on 22 April 2026, Sterkaj had an on-air confrontation with host Ledion Liço, after Liço had remarked "be careful with money" in apparent reference to Sterkaj's openly discussed past gambling problems. Sterkaj responded sharply: "Më the 'kujdes me lekët'. Po kujdesu ti për lekët e tua mor shok" ("You told me 'be careful with money.' You take care of your own money, mate"). Liço replied: "Unë nuk kam një histori me bixhozin" ("I don't have a history with gambling"), sparking widespread online debate.[5][27]

Music career

Following the show, Sterkaj launched a parallel career as a recording artist under the stage name Rogert "La Bombaaa". On 26 April 2026, he released the single "Ala Ya Dubai" with Albanian artist Don Phenom (Martin Sterkaj), with music by Don Phenom and Eglant Brah, published through Folé Publishing.[28][29][unreliable source?]
