Rohit Jawa
Early Life
Rohit Jawa was born in then Madras (now Chennai) in Tamil Nadu, India in 1989. He immigrated to the United States in early 2000s. His father was an Indian Railways clerk and his mother was a school teacher. Jawa got a scholarship and completed his high-school in Cincinnati, OH. He got admission in and later graduated from the University of Cincinnati. He eventually also got admission in Stanford University but ultimately dropped out from there to pursue his career.
Career and legal troubles
Rohit Jawa started his career working with Restaurant Depot in Cincinnati, Ohio. He started out working as a software engineer. He eventually became a lead developer at another company there.
In November 2015, Rohit Jawa of Cincinnati, Ohio, pleaded guilty in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District to eight counts of wire fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft (United States of America v. Jawa). According to the US Justice Department, between February 2013 and June 2015, he allegedly ran a scheme using multiple eBay and PayPal accounts to defraud eBay and its parcel-insurance provider, and obtained the identities of multiple U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General special agents and FBI agents who had contacted him about a customer complaint. He used those credentials to gain access to law enforcement information systems and sensitive CIA systems, and retrieve personal information on several individuals, which was then used to open accounts. In 2016, he was sentenced to 48 months in prison with credit to be given for good time and time already served. All of his money and assets were forfeited to the United States. The case was investigated by the FBI's Washington Field Office Cyber Task Force and the USPS Office of Inspector General.
Personal Life and Presidential Pardon
Jawa received a presidential pardon from President Barack Obama during his final days in office. He was released from prison in 2017 and has stayed away from public eyes since then. After his release from prison, he worked for the US government as a consultant for some time, providing them knowledge and expertise against hackers and darknet matters. At this time, he lives in Cleveland, OH, working for BlueBridge Networks as a Senior Vulnerability Management Analyst. He is currently married to Ritika Jawa and they have one baby boy.
