Roman Schmidt (hockey)

Roman Schmidt (born February 27, 2003.[1]) is a defenseman currently playing under the USA Hockey National Team Development Program for the U.S. National Under-17 Team. Schmidt was a second round, 36th overall in the OHL 2019 Priority Selection Draft by the Kitchener Rangers.[2]

Playing Career[edit]

Schmidt began the '17-'18 season playing for the Mississauga Rebels before he relocated with the Don Mills Flyers Minor Midget AAA team in hopes of making a push for the OHL Cup and the GTHL Championship[3]. He played with the Don Hills Flyers before committing to the USA Hockey National Team Development Program and partaking in the USHL. While playing for the Don Mills Flyers, he pushed for 73 points consisting of 53 assists and 18 goals[4]. During his 19-20 season with the Under-17 team, he has obtained 17 points with 7 goals and 10 assists.[5] He has played alongside highly renounced scouted hockey players like Luke Hughes[6] and Eamon Powell.[7] He shoots right and currently stands at 6'5" and 209 pounds. Schmidt is available for the 2021 NHL Entry Draft[8] and has committed to Boston University[9] for the 2020-2021 season.[10][11]

Personal Life[edit]

Schmidt has a brother named Gabriel and considers his hockey hero to be Victor Hedman[12]
